The Trip Home. | ||||
Well, you know how it is - eventually all vacations must end. The bills must be paid. We packed up our van and headed home. The first day we drove from Seattle to Missoula. Thinking that would make it a very short trip the next day - we planned to stay at Dawn and Tim's house one night on our way home.

About an hour out of Missoula as we passed a tractor that was mowing the sides of the freeway - we were travelling about 80mph at the time - we heard a huge crash, a scream from the back seat and suddenly could hear the freeway noise. Our side window had blown out - or more accurately had blown in - covering Devin with glass. By God's grace, he had just fallen asleep and only had a small scratch on his arm. I made a couple phone calls from the side of the road - thank goodness for cell phones - and, since there was nowhere to fix the window in Cheyenne, we headed back to Missoula to get the window fixed. | ||||
Getting the window fixed put us about 4 hours behind. Now instead of having a relatively short trip and getting to Dawn's house early so we could let the kids play before bed, we were going to get there pretty late at night. Darkness had just fallen, we were travelling again about 80mph almost to the South Dakota Border when suddenly a deer jumped in front of us. It was all I could do to clip the deer rather than hitting it head on. Can you believe two accidents in one day. Neither could we. But again by the Grace of God nobody was hurt. There were so many things that happened just right with that deer that one or all of us could have been seriously hurt or killed that to me it is nothing but God's protection that saved us. We stopped the van, took a look at it on the side of the road, declared it driveable and continued to Dawn's house. We decided to give our guardian angel the day off the next day and didn't go home till the day after. The van had over $5000.00 worth of damage and took a month to fix. |
